Looking Forward, Looking Back

Word prompts provided by Luna Nina of Unconscious Mutterings, here is week no. 183.

Affair  ::  Passionate.

Once I move past the wonderful whirlwind beginning of a relationship, I step into the twilight zone, a phase fraught with bumbling and awkwardness.  On occasion, I have been known to resolve my clumsiness by either hastily marrying or embarking on some other form of earth-shattering, lifelong commitment.  Why not? I would say to myself, shrugging my shoulders like a complete (and clueless) fool.  We love each other and this is where we were headed anyway.  What's the big deal?  Earth to Louise.  Earth to Louise.  This approach has been wildly unsuccessful.  Dear Diary, I get it now.  I was wrong and made some mistakes.  I'm on the case.  Love, Louise.

Package  ::  Yummy.

I am still thinking of passionate love affairs, above.  The fun beginnings.  Not the toxic messes at the ends.

Warner  ::  Brothers.

I do not go to enough movies in my middle age, even though my oldest son is a student at the Los Angeles Film School in Hollywood, and by now is probably the world’s leading authority on all films everywhere.  Which will make me seem pathetically inept in his eyes.  Oh, goody.  Just like it was when he was a teenager!

Drop ::  Kick me through the goal post of life.

Wasn’t that a country & western song from the 70’s?  I can’t remember.  All I can think of after having written a sentence involving football is: Whoop dee doo!  The Steelers are in training and another NFL season is about to begin!  Something else worth living for.

Balance  ::  Off.

As an ex-ballerina, it amazes me how dreadfully uncoordinated I am in the standing poses of my yoga classes.  You would think I never tried to balance on one leg before in my entire life, not that I had spent the majority of my childhood sneaking off with my sister’s toe shoes to dance for hours to quietly-playing recordings of Swan Lake.  I, of course, was the swan.  Well, honey, I'm here to tell you.  Not anymore.

Shore  ::  Naples.

This is where I will be for the long Labor Day weekend.  Which is funny because Caroline, whom I usually visit, will be there for about a minute before she flies off to a week-long conference here in Pennsylvania.  Oh, the irony.  The timing.  I guess my “off” muttering for “balance” in the paragraph above could be applied here as well.

Confirmation  ::  Conformation.

Two totally different ideas.  A confirmation usually involves a repeat to verify something.  Conformation is what I used to do with Gabby, my show dog, before she decided to try to kill my older bitch, Sophie, and had to be returned to her breeder.  All she did was become a teenager (see "Warner" above) and go into her second heat, and she decided that she, and only she, was qualified to rule my roost of mastiffs.  Since Sophie is the real Alpha Bitch, Gabby had it in for her.  Big time.  Okay, you try separating two fighting bitches when you weigh 120- pounds and they weigh 130+ and 140+.  All this happened 2 years ago and I still think of Gabby every day.  She was a joy to have in my home until those treacherous teen years.  She got my old males up and moving, and Max simply adored her.  I wish her well in her new home with her very own little girl and lake!  (sniff)

Nose  ::  y

I am not ashamed, and I confess it.  I am nosy.  I want to know ALL about everything and everyone, especially if it is none of my business. In Pittsburgh, the word they use for this condition is “nebby”.  And also in Pittsburgh, someone like me is fondly referred to as a nebshit.

Talking  ::  Heads.

Another blast from the past.  80’s?

Bend  ::  Flow.

Go with the flow.  Something I would love to do better.  Unfortunately, going with the flow often involves slowing down, breathing, getting in touch with my inner self, and stuff like that.  Since my inner self is filled with a whole committee of voices that can’t agree on anything and that delight in tormenting me as much as possible, I think it better to simply keep charging through life in my own bumbling way and hope for the best.  I know how ridiculous this sounds, so please believe me when I say that I’m working on it.  Really, I am.  Remember, I'm taking yoga, for God's sakes.

Namaste and have a nice weekend!
